Restricted competition called by GISA, to carry out the executive project and construction management of a nursery and primary school in Sant Climent Sescebes (Alt Empordà). First prize.

The location on the site of the existing municipal school building, which had become too small, meant that the pupils had to be moved to a nearby site temporarily for the duration of the construction work.

The new building seeks its place on the plot by optimizing the reduced dimensions available, volumetrically completes the island of houses of which it will form part and achieves a good orientation to offer protection from the strong prevailing tramontana wind and sunlight to the classrooms without penalizing natural lighting. It also manages to preserve almost all the large plane trees that were already part of the playground of the old school.

A single L-shaped floor, with mostly sloping roofs, finished with tiles, combined with flat roof areas. The exterior façades have vertical louvred lattices, which provide solar control, consistent enough to withstand the impacts of the playing field and the strong winds in the area. The section of the classroom building seeks to optimise lighting by softening the entry of natural light from a south orientation, with an indirect entry through the upper part to the classrooms.

On the outside, the building plays with large white and burgundy panels, which are always tinted behind the vertical metallic solar protection louvres. The paved playground will be placed just in front of the classrooms and the rest will be left with compacted earth paving.
