Restricted architectural competition called by INCASÒL for the drafting of the executive project and subsequent construction management of a multi-family building for subsidized housing in Figueres, Girona. First prize.

The building of 45 rental housing units and parking spaces is located within a new development sector and will be surrounded by other new residential buildings that were still under construction at the time of the tender.

The plant is organized with a “U” scheme looking for the sun for all homes, in any case we must avoid as much as possible the north orientation, more expensive by the strong north wind that blows in the area. The access to all the houses is made from a walkway in the inner courtyard. The main parts of each house (bedrooms and living rooms) face the exterior facade and the sun. The service spaces (bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms) face the courtyard through the interior facade.

The large dimensions of the courtyard ensure good cross ventilation to the dwellings, providing ventilation and natural lighting to kitchens and bathrooms. The courtyard contains the vertical communications core (stairway and elevator) that connects the building lobby, through the passeres of each floor, to the door of each apartment. Open, but protected from the tramontana wind, the dimensions of the courtyard provide a quality community space for all neighbours.

The building has solar thermal collection on the roof to produce DHW for all the dwellings. This energy is distributed to each floor through the roofs of the walkway, the same as the rest of the services but in the opposite direction. This distribution allows easy access to all community facilities.
