Complete renovation of a large house that needs to be redistributed to obtain two functional units of the same family. The property has a facade in the middle of a typical chamfered block of Barcelona’s Eixample in Gràcia neighborhood. It is a top floor under the roof, with bright interior courtyards and a lot of perimeter facade to the street.

There was not much left of the original configuration of the house which had been subdivided with office space by the previous owners. A new layout was needed to allow the independent operation of two dwellings all occupied by the same family simultaneously.

A complete redistribution of the existing compartmentalization and interventions for the repair of punctual modifications previously made to the structure were necessary. A complete renovation of the facilities and sanitary equipment. New furniture for kitchens and bathrooms, and made-to-measure closets in the bedrooms.

New wooden carpentry to the street, with high level of acoustic insulation to silence the noise of the center of Barcelona. The existing pavement is unusable and has to be completely renovated. A continuous pavement of solid wood slats combined with newly manufactured hydraulic tiles was chosen for the floors and walls of the wet areas.

The thermal conditioning in winter is through water radiators distributed throughout the house, and ceiling fans for the summer, assisted by air cooling with splits for heat peaks.
