Restricted architectural design competition for the conception, drafting of the executive project and subsequent construction management of the extension of the Calderí-Pic del Vent school in Caldes de Montbui, at Vallés Oriental county.

We propose to locate the new school building in the area furthest from the stream, for safety reasons due to the slopes that limit the plot and to facilitate continuity between the primary and secondary playgrounds. In the northern part of the plot (the area currently occupied by the prefabricated modules of the Calderín school) is located the multi-sports court, with good communication with the changing rooms and the gymnasium pavilion. This allows the operation of the modules until the extension is finished.

The new building is totally independent, with a façade on Maria Aurèlia Capmany street and its own access from this same street, but it is connected to the existing building at ground floor level through a very generous porch, which allows having a protected outdoor space on rainy days.

The infant education classrooms are located on the ground floor, with a large porch and open to the outdoor classroom space. The corridor leading to the classrooms is widened to create differentiated areas to be used as ‘corners’ and ‘spaces’ for play and learning in small groups.

The primary classrooms are located on the first floor, with a wide central corridor and classrooms on both sides. The secondary departments and classrooms are also located on this floor, at the end closest to the current secondary building.
