Complete apartment renovation in Barcelona

Complete renovation of a 24m² of useful surface, four windows, a sunny balcony and an original hydraulic pavement are the starting points of this reform in the center of Gracia neighborhood, in Barcelona.

The renovation consisted in overthrowing the compartmentalization of the tiny house, keeping only the bathroom closed. A single space was proposed in which the various areas of living, sleeping, cooking and working are defined and combined through a few custom-made furniture.

The floor plan is almost rhomboidal in shape and none of the walls are square. All the furniture needs to be built to measure, according to the place they occupy and as the perimeter is being rehabilitated. Every corner is taken advantage of to provide storage. The original hydraulic tile pavement is maintained, taking advantage of the pieces under the floor to recompose the voids left by the eliminated partitions. The wooden exterior carpentry was replaced by new ones with similar characteristics but with insulating glass and double rubber gasket. Traditional wooden roller blinds were installed as solar protection. Thermal comfort in winter is achieved with a single radiator. In the summer, cross ventilation with an auxiliary mobile fan is used.
